Pope Francisco will serve a mass for Armenian genocide victims’ memory

Pope Francisco will serve a mass for the memory of the Armenian genocide victims in the Basilica of San Pedro on April 12, 2015. As Prensa Armenia news agency informs, Cardinal Archbishop of Buenos Aires Mario Poli announced about this during a mass in  Armenian Saint Narek Church, on Sunday, August 17.

“The Pope replied to the invitation made to him a year ago by the Armenian church through the Patriarch Nerses Bedros XIX to hold a mass for the recognition of the genocide”, informed the pastor of Narek Church Pablo Hakimian.

During the meeting with the Patriarch of Cilicia of the Armenians, Nerses Bedros XIX Tarmourini, in 2013, Francisco also accepted the daughter of a family survivor of the Armenian genocide, spoke with her, took her hand and said: “It was the first genocide of the 20th century”. This gesture caused  the condemnation and criticism by theTurkish side: the Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement considering that “the expressions of Pope Francisco are absolutely unacceptable”.
