“We really highly appreciate and are grateful for accepting our invitation and being next to us on this very important for French people day”: Jean-Claude Gaudin

Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan who is in Marseille with an official visit from 12 to 16 of July met with his Marseille colleague Jean-Claude Gaudin. World-famous chansonnier Charles Aznavour was present at the meeting too. Greeting the Mayor of Yerevan Jean-Claude Gaudin noted that this official visit and the agreements made within its frames would contribute greatly to the further development of the relationship between the two cities. Considering the cooperation between Yerevan and Marseille from the point of view of the current tight and warm Armenian-French relationship Marseille Mayor stressed that the cooperation between the two cities should be corresponding and multilateral. 

“I assure you, Mister Mayor, both on my behalf and on behalf of the residents of Marseille that we really highly appreciate your accepting our invitation and being next to us on this important for French people day. This visit is another excellent opportunity to strengthen the friendship and cooperation established between our cities and to outline new directions for development. Be sure that Yerevan is one of our best partners and we attach importance to the expansion and strengthening of our interaction with Yerevan”, said Jean-Claude Gaudin.

Expressing gratitude for the invitation and warm welcome Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan in his turn stressing the current high level of Armenian-French relationship attached importance to development of friendly and partner relations between Yerevan and Marseille which are based on the friendship between the two countries and their people. The Mayor also noted that the cooperation agreement signed between the two cities in 2013 had opened a new page in long history of partnership.

“We are happy to state that the relations between Yerevan and Marseille are developing and expanding year by year and the cooperation which has more than 20-year-old history proves it the best way. Our long cooperation with Marseille is on firm basis and our reciprocal visits prove it too. And taking into account the fact that Marseille became the hometown for thousands Armenians hardly escaped from Genocide we can confidently say that Marseille really plays a great role in expansion and strengthening of the Armenian-French relationship”, said the Mayor particularly emphasizing the personal contribution of his French colleague in the issue of cooperation expansion between the cities.

At the end of the meeting Mayor Taron Margaryan invited Marseille Mayor Jean-Claude Gaudin and Charles Aznavour to take part in “Erebuni-Yerevan 2797” celebration.
