US Ambassador to Azerbaijan waits for Senate’s approval

“According to the parliamentary system of the United States, new ambassador should be approved by the Senate”. According to APA, U.S. Charge d’Affaires in Azerbaijan Dereck Hogan said about this.

“It is gratifying that, the U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations approved Cekuta’s nomination last week. Now we are waiting for the approval of Cekuta’s nomination by the Senate,” said Hogan.

The charge d’Affaires noted the date of new ambassador’s arrival in Azerbaijan would be revealed after the final decision of the Senate.

On December 4, the U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations held hearings regarding Robert Francis Cekuta nominated as the ambassador to Azerbaijan by President Barack Obama.

Cekuta’s nomination was approved at the end of the hearings.
